An Android malware has been spotted on the Google Play Store. Hidden in the code of two applications dedicated to selfies, this malware is able to record your private conversations through the microphone of your smartphone. Once infiltrated on your mobile, it will also display pop-up advertisements on the screen of your phone.

Wandera’s cybersecurity researchers have discovered an Android malware hidden in the code of two apps available on the Google Play Store: Sun Pro Beauty Camera and Funny Sweet Beauty Selfie Camera . These are two apps for selfie enthusiasts that offer similar features. Applications allow you to apply filters to your portraits. In total, they were downloaded by 1.5 million users .

Google Play Store: These 2 Android apps hide an annoying advertising malware

Once installed on your smartphone, the malware will install without your knowledge an invisible shortcut to the application. If you decide to delete it, the malware will continue to work in the background. The primary purpose of the malware is to display advertisements on the smartphone screen of its victims. Sometimes an advertisement will even pop up full screen even if your phone is locked. Thanks to this method, the hackers can generate in a short time important advertising revenues.

That’s not all. Both apps are also able to record conversations through the microphone of your smartphone . The malware can indeed activate the microphone without you noticing it. For now, Wandera does not know what purpose the pirates are taking control of the microphone. As always, we invite you to beware of applications that require a large number of permissions.

Contacted by Wandera, Google quickly erased these two fraudulent apps from the Play Store . To avoid installing malware on your device, we advise you to always take a look at the reviews. In this case, user reviews on the Play Store can quickly understand the trickery. For security, we also advise you to equip your smartphone with one of these free Android antivirus .
